Welcome to my Room :) -- the blank wall will get the SmartBoard on Friday!!

Back to Reality

Well, I’m back to reality.   It’s not that bad.

But, I was talking to Mr. Johnson (my school-room neighbor and elementary choir instructor), who went to Africa last year.  And I said that I’ve changed a-lot, and I am interested to see how that works-out in the classroom.  He said that’s the way the four teachers who went to Africa last year felt.  I actually have an 8x10 picture of some of my kids from Mexico, and the first time somebody tells me that I need to supply their child with pens/ pencils / paper; I am going to explain that I do actually provide school supplies for children who need them.  Lack of organization does not indicate need.

The room is absolutely awesome.  It’s not ready yet; but I’m on Mexican time; so No Problem!  I absolutely adored this “little” room with the only north facing window.  I’m so happy that I have it.  It feels comfortable and everything is beautiful.  I hope the children intuitively take care of it without too much prodding.

I loved seeing all of the kids tonight.  Tons of my 8th graders from last year came by for hugs.  It was great to hear that my hair looked pretty or that I had made something cute.  I’ve really been missing all of my complimentary Latino friends; but a group of teenagers can be equally loving.

One mom came by to tell me about something and her child said:  I know it’s not right – Mrs. Emmonds taught me better than that and she always believed in me and I want to make sure I fix it… and the mom thanked me for whatever I did to grow the child’s conscience.  <tears>.

Golf Tournament

Troy signed-up for a booth at the big Oilman’s Tournament.  I volunteered to help because Friday was scheduled as a day to work in our rooms independently; and I figured that I could do that on Sunday.  Well, the schedule at school changed and I had to cancel helping Troy.  Troy is so annoyed and angry.  So… Tomorrow I won’t be going to the faculty pool party.  Instead I’ll be hauling over to the golf course to make lime-ades in the hot sun in my sundress.  You’ve seen it – I noticed that about 90% of my photos are in that same white and blue sundress with the flowers.

New Hair

Had to cancel my hair appointment because I wouldn’t be back from Chichen in time, and my stylist went on vacation when I got home.  So, instead of my beloved Debra, I had an appointment with the manager today.  She was fast, adorable, delightful, and did a great job; but I didn’t realize that she would cost more!  Thankfully, Troy hasn’t noticed the price, yet…  She had to chop off a bit of my ends.  I knew that was coming.  Everyday, a little after 2:00, when I returned to the Hacienda, I hopped into the pool and floated on my back; and every time, I thought that it was ruining my hair…  Oh well.  It was a-lot easier to have that hair whacked off than to avoid the pool in the heat of the day J  My hair’s still curly; but now 4” shorter and more blonde.
