Apparently Thursdays will always be my slow days. Wednesday night is Celso (the night watchman)'s day of rest; so I don't have the 10:30 PM and 5:30 AM classes with him. Also, the camiseros are taking a housekeeping class across the street at 8 AM; so they must miss class with me in order to accomplish all of their tasks. We have quite a few guests right now, so everyone else is busy as well, and as a result I have more free time than necessary. Happily for the Hacienda and the workers, there are quite a few large groups. They have been eating most of their meals here as well -- so everyone is quite busy and hopefully making lots of tips.
It is around 1 PM, and thunder has been rolling in increasingly for about a half hour already. The cool breezes bring hope of another delightfully rainy afternoon.
When there are many people at the Hacienda, I try to escape a little bit, and have been hanging out with the other gringo, Jim. He is a bit of a hermit and is actually living in a traditional Mayan hut on the grounds, but he has been kind enough to put up with my chatter and I really enjoy the companionship! He maintains a naturalist website and updates a semi-weekly newsletter. Here is the latest: http://www.backyardnature.net/n/10/100704.htm Most of the things are beyond me, but I have also been enjoying the delightful flowering Bec tree several times a day. The lady friend mentioned left before I arrived.
Last night someone bought the stuffed kitty that I have on the blog. Of course there are lots of other cute kitties and other animals that I will photograph.
The rain has just begun to fall :)
5 minutes later... I took a few pictures, and a huge crack of lightning filled the air with its smell.
